WEEK NINE RESULTS

  • WEEK NINE WINNER:  Michael Patton.  For the third time this year, exactly one person went 6-0.  Michael gets the glory this week.  He skyrocketed up the leaderboard, jumping from 217th place to 47th.
  • The group and lock winning percentages were terrible, 39.7% and 33.4%, respectively:  the second worst week of the year.
  • We had 14 people go 0-6, by far the biggest number of the year.
  • As is typically the case, the group loses when underdogs cover.  Underdogs went 10-5 this week.  In the two worst weeks of the year (this week and Week 5, underdogs are a combined 20-10.  Home underdogs are a combined 11-3-1 in those weeks.  The hard part is picking the right week to take the dogs.
  • The Majority 6 was only 1-5.
  • Texas was the most popular pick of the year, receiving 308 picks in their game against TCU.  It surpassed the 279 picks OSU received in Week 3.  Their loss killed the group.
  • Texas also received 141 of the lock selections, which is 31% of the total!
  • Five of the six most popular picks were ATS losers.
  • Underdogs received more locks than the favorite in six matchups.  They were 4-2 ATS in those games.
  • We had 3 teams receive the maximum bonus points (KSU, UCF and Michigan) after not having any at all in Weeks 6, 7 or 8.
  • 11 of the 14 games earned bonus points.
  • Chad Capra is still king in the standings.
  • We have three new names in the Top Ten.  Interestingly, they all entered Week 9 ranked 29th or worse.  Joe Garnand entered the Top Ten from the 57th place spot.
  • Only two people still have an unblemished lock record:  Brandon Bains and Jason Sampson.
  • Tyler Armstrong is 0-9.  In case you were wondering, which I’m sure you weren’t, Rice and New Mexico State are the only two FBS schools without a win.
  • Five people advanced in the bracket while scoring only 21 points.
  • The biggest blowout was 103-0 in Joe Garnand’s win over Cary Cox.
  • 5 matchups went to a tiebreaker.
  • The highest scoring person to lose was James Welin.  He lost as a #1 seed to Amberlea Smith, 68-67.

  • WEEK EIGHT WINNER:  David Goble.  David and Blake Benafield were the only two people to go 6-0, but David outscored Blake by 7 points.  He jumped from 412th place to 286th place.
  • The group and lock winning percentages were average, 49.7% and 52.1%, respectively.
  • For only the third time this year, the 0-6’s (3) outnumbered the 6-0’s (2).
  • The group’s lock record continues to impress.  It’s at 55.3% right now.  At this point last year, it was 46.8%.
  • The Majority 6 might be even more impressive.  Its winning at a rate of 61.5%, as opposed to only 46.9% at this point last year.  If you like to oppose “public plays”, you’ve probably had a rough year so far.
  • Florida was the most popular pick of the week.  They won and covered.
  • Oklahoma State was the second most popular pick of the week.  They lost outright.
  • Seven of the 30 teams received 3 locks or less.  They were 3-4 ATS.
  • Favorites were 10-5 ATS.  Double-digit favorites were 5-1!  Texas was the only double-digit favorite that failed to cover, and they almost lost outright.
  • Chad Capra continues to occupy the top spot in the rankings.
  • Adam Meek is the top ranked player with a losing lock record.  He is in 37th place.
  • Three people have an 8-0 lock record:  Brandon Bains, Steve Stephenson and Jason Sampson.
  • Kaleb K is the highest ranked player without a 100-point week.  He is in 62nd place.
  • Scott Hill was the first person out of the Elimination Bracket.  He missed a spot in the bracket by losing the second tiebreaker (best lock record).

  • WEEK SEVEN WINNER:  Shaun Koonce and Peter Sanborn.  Shaun and Peter shared the weekly with 127 points.  It moved Peter into the Top 20.
  • The group and lock winning percentages were much better than last week, 54.5% and 61.2%, respectively.
  • Only one person went 0-6.  Seven people sent 6-0.
  • For the year, we’ve had 47 6-0’s to only 23 0-6’s.  We’ve never had the 6-0’s outnumber the 0-6’s at years end.
  • In Week Six, every favorite received more picks than the underdog. This week, we only had 8 favorites receive more picks than the dog.
  • The three most popular picks (Wisconsin, Alabama and Penn State) all covered.
  • The gap between 1st place and 10th place (77 points) is the same as the gap between 10th place and 124th place.
  • We are down to only 5 people with a perfect lock record.
  • Two people are 0-7:  Trevor Bowman and Tyler Armstrong.
  • James Welin has scored 100+ points for three consecutive weeks.  Dang.

  • WEEK SIX WINNER:  James Welin.  James was the only person to go 6-0.  The last time that happened was Week 10 of 2018.  James jumped from 129th place to 12th!
  • This was by far the worst week of the year.  The group and lock winning percentages were  39.5% and 33.0%, respectively.  It was the worst week we’ve seen since Week 7 of last year.
  • Despite the poor week, only 6 people went 0-6.
  • Only 8 people scored at least 100 points, this coming a week after 112 people accomplished the feat.  To put it another way: Week 5 had 23.4% of the field score 100+ points(112 of 477).  Week 6 had 1.7% (8 of 481). Its the lowest total since Week 7 of 2014! Week 7 of 2014 also had 8 people score 100+ points, but there were only 249 submissions that week.
  • Home Underdogs went 5-1-1.  It was easily the best week of the year for dogs.
  • Favorites were only 4-10-1 against the spread and only 8-7 straight up.
  • 157 people scored less than 40 points.
  • 3 teams received at least 250 picks, they were 0-2-1 ATS.
  • The Majority 6 was 1-4-1.
  • Oklahoma State (70) and Auburn (79) accounted for 31% of the locks.  They were both favored and lost the game outright.
  • Favorites received more picks than the underdog in every single game!
  • Stanford was the only underdog that received more locks than the favorite.  They won the game outright as a 16.5 point dog.
  • Interestingly, there were four underdogs that received exactly 1 lock selection.  They were 4-0 ATS.
  • Week 6 had the most popular game of the year, least popular game of the year, and biggest loser of the year.
  • The number of perfect lock records went from 36 people in Week 5 to only 7 people now.
  • We also have 7 people with a perfectly imperfect lock record (0-6).
  • Despite a 2-3-1 record in Week 6, Chad Capra still has a 2.5 game lead in the standings.
  • Only four people from Week 5 held their spot in the Top Ten.

WEEK FIVE RESULTS

  • WEEK FIVE WINNER:  Matt Bartholomew.  Tough competition for the top spot this week.  16 people went 6-0, an all time Pigskin Pick Six record.  Matt led the way with 138 points!
  • Only three people went 0-6.
  • The group and lock winning percentages were excellent:  59.1% and 68.8%, respectively.
  • 112 people scored 100 points or more…another record.
  • For the third time this year, the “Majority 6” went 5 -1!
  • The OSU vs KSU game was the most popular game of the year (311 picks between the two teams).  OSU received most of those picks (267).
  • Favorites were 10-5.
  • The five most popular picks were all ATS winners.
  • 5 underdogs received more interest than the favorites.  They were all ATS losers except Ole Miss against Alabama.
  • Oklahoma State and Ohio State received a combined 171 lock picks. That represents 36% of the total locks placed last week.  Both teams covered.
  • Chad Capra is on fire.  His worst week was 84 points in Week 4.  Stop, Chad.  Just stop.
  • 36 people still have a perfect lock record!  At this point last year, there were only 6.
  • 9 people are 0-5.
  • Snappalicious is in 155th place.  I mention him for no other reason his name being snappalicious.
