- WEEK FOUR WINNER: Matt McClarnon. It was quite the week for Matt. Not only did he capture the weekly title, he was the only person to go 6-0 and now sits in 1st place overall.
- The group and lock winning percentages were terrible: 40.3% and 33.7%, respectively.
- It is fitting that one of the best weeks in PP6 history was followed by a very poor one. The overall record was the worst winning percentage since Week 6 in 2019.
- After having 17 people go 6-0 last week, we only had one this week.
- 13 people went 0-6, more than the previous three weeks combined.
- Only 16 people scored 100+ points.
- Why did the group do so poorly? Favored teams were only 6-9 ATS.
- The Majority 6 (the 6 most popular picks of the week) were only 1-5 ATS.
- The ghost of Lincoln Riley haunted the PP6 selections, as the two most popular picks (OU and USC) failed to cover the spread. OU lost outright to KSU.
- USC was the most popular lock of the year, earning the trust of 91 participants! They failed to cover and were lucky to escape with a win.
- Out of the six most popular picks of the week, Kansas was the only team to cover.
- Michigan received 95% of the picks in their game against Maryland! They failed to cover, making them the biggest loser (based on percentage) of the year.
- All was not lost, as the week also saw the biggest winner of the year. Utah received 94% of the picks in their game against ASU. They won and covered.
- The group only chose the underdog in 3 games (Baylor, Arkansas and Florida). Baylor and Florida covered the spread. Arkansas, somehow, did not.
- 5 teams earned one or fewer locks (Maryland, Iowa State, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Arizona State). They were 1-4 ATS.
- 350 of the 451 locks were on favorites. Of the 101 locks for the underdogs, 62 of them were on Baylor or Arkansas.
- Only 5 games earned bonus points.
- 24 people have a perfect lock record.
- 23 people are 0-4 on their locks.
- Carolyn Beins has an astonishing record of 4-20.
- After Week 2, Mark Sayers was in 266th place. He is now in 5th.
Month: September 2022
WEEK THREE RESULTS
- WEEK THREE WINNER: Jen Teck Kao. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Jen Teck’s 6-0 record wasn’t quite good enough to capture the Week Two high score, but his 6-0 this week was. He scored 134 points, which is the high score for the year.
- The group and lock winning percentages were excellent: 56.8% and 68.1%, respectively.
- 68.1% on locks is the best percentage since Week 5 of 2019.
- 17 people went 6-0! That is the second highest total in PP6 history. What is the highest total? We had 18 people go 6-0 in Week One of 2013, and that was with only 231 submissions (we had 17 on 453 submissions this week). Week One of 2013 was the single greatest week in PP6 history. 18 people went 6-0, the average score was 81.2, the overall winning percentage was 65.7% and the lock winning percentage was 81.4%.
- Favorites went 12-3 ATS. That is almost always a sign of a good week for the “public”.
- Home underdogs went 1-5 ATS. Double-digit home dogs were 0-4 ATS.
- The 75% majority went 5-1 ATS.
- The three most popular picks (OU, USC and Texas) were all ATS winners. OU was the most popular pick of all, and they poured gasoline on the dumpster fire that is Nebraska football.
- Those same 3 teams accounted for 39% of the locks.
- Four underdogs received more picks than the favorites (BYU, Auburn, Texas Tech and Michigan State). They went 0-4 ATS.
- In their game against ND, California was the only team that didn’t receive a lock. They lost the game but covered the spread.
- 8 of the 15 games earned bonus points. That is the highest total of the year.
- EOwens has scored 100+ points each week, and he is in 1st place overall.
- 306 people are at least .500 or better.
- 3 people are off to a 3-15 start.
WEEK TWO RESULTS
- WEEK TWO WINNER: Kris Kubin. We only had three people go 6-0: Kris, Jen Teck and Oskie. Kris captured the weekly prize with his 126 points, two points better than Jen Teck.
- The group and lock winning percentages were below average: 49.3% and 44.2%, respectively.
- For the year, the lock record is now below .500. The overall percentage is just barely above .500.
- Four people went 0-6. Unfortunately, John Archer was one of those people. He is off to the worst start of the group with a 1-11 record.
- Home underdogs were only 1-4 ATS. For the year, they are only 3-6.
- The two most popular picks of the week, Alabama and Baylor, failed to cover the spread. Baylor had chances to cover but didn’t. Alabama almost lost outright to the Longhorns.
- Baylor received 245 picks as an underdog. It is very rare for an underdog to get that much interest. Arkansas was the only underdog to receive 200+ picks last year. That was week 5 against Georgia. The Bulldogs shut them out, 37-0.
- Together, Alabama and Baylor accounted for 31% of the locks.
- Kent State was the least popular pick of the week, only getting support from 16 people. It was also the biggest pick disparity of the year, with OU receiving 88% of the picks. Kent State covered the spread.
- Arizona State was the only team not to receive at least one lock selection. Wise decision by the group, as ASU failed to cover the spread against OSU.
- 6 games earned bonus points this week, with four of those occurring in games with double-digit spreads. For the year, 7 of the 10 bonus point games have been double-digit spreads.
WEEK ONE RESULTS
- WEEK ONE WINNER: Brian Marshall. Four people went 6-0, but the longtime PP6 participant was one point better than his competition.
- The group and lock winning percentages were pretty good: 51.1% and 54.4%, respectively. The lock percentage was actually higher than the overall percentage, which doesn’t happen as often as you’d think.
- Five people went 0-6. Michael Patton, the 2021 PP6 Champion, was one of those five. His six losses represent 22% of his total losses in 2021.
- 320 people scored at least 60 points, and 48 people scored 100+. That’s a pretty good start for the group.
- Home teams went 6-6 against the spread.
- The group majority went 7-8.
- The 75% majority (at least 75% of the picks going on one side) was 3-1.
- All five of the weekday games were covered by the road team.
- Only four of the 15 games earned bonus points.
- Four games were covered by half a point! Five were covered by a point or less.
- The least popular pick, Georgia Tech, hung in there against Clemson but failed to cover.
- The most popular pick, Arkansas, escaped with a win and cover against Cincy.
- The group majority picked the underdog in five games. Those teams went 2-3 ATS.
- Oregon was one of the most popular underdogs of the week. They got absolutely crushed by Georgia.
- East Carolina was the only team that didn’t receive at least one lock. They lost but covered the spread against NC State.
- The biggest pick disparity was in the FSU vs LSU game. 84% of the picks went for LSU, and 96% of the locks. They lost in a thriller against Florida State.
